This week we are tying to transition from previs to more final visualization. For me this means locking the final layout of the environments and adding textures so we can get an accurate idea of how the actual transition will look.
Yoolji Lee modeled a shell for the first environment based on our chosen reference image.
With this locked as our layout for E1 I went into Maya and modeled a kit to recreate the environment adding bevels where edges would be exposed to the camera.
Duck Sandy has been working on materials and developing Environment 2. I've taken the marble, paint and concrete they produced and put them into this project. (they have adjusted material parameters in their own UE project... I need to migrate those settings over asap) As most of the environments are made with multiple meshes placed near to each other, to avoid seams I added a world-aligning function to these materials. We need to texture E2 and make sure we have appropriate versions like this for each material needed.
Standard Seamless Material
World Aligned Material
Example of how the cloners create a Grid of meshes the materials were applied to
Render with Concrete on E1
Detail Lighting only (concrete Normal still applied)
Render with Paint on E1
Render with character motion and more change in camera view
The next most pressing task for me as week 5 begins is locking the layout and models for Environment 2 so I can focus on refining the motion and lighting of the transition.
