Shine Dance Festival
April 9th - 12th
Vernon BC
Dancers Participating: All Dancers
Event Notes:
SCHEDULE
Our standard policy requires ALL dancers to attend the FULL event, and watch every performance that one of our dancers perform in.
Once you are in Vernon, I expect you to be present at the competition for all your team members' performances. Please see the itinerary for any note of ‘All dancers in the audience’. These are long days, but it’s part of travelling with your team. Parents are not expected to be present for all other dances, but are encouraged. It’s really nice for our dancers to have a big cheering section, and it shows great team spirit and support to the other studios.
All dancers are required to stay until the end of the competition day on Sunday for the Challenge for Charity.
Please complete this travel form so I have accurate information and can reach all those travelling.
TEAM EVENT
We will not be scheduling a team event during this competition, as the schedule does not allow.
LIVESTREAM
Livestream will be available for friends and family to watch your performance. Check out Join the Livestream on the Shine Dance Festival website to watch!
PHOTOS & VIDEOS
Photos and videos at SHINE are taken by TMM Dance, and all will be available for purchase in the lobby. You’ll be able to preview all photos. Please do not take photos of the screens in the lobby!
ADJUDICATED AWARDS
All entries will be given a score by our panel of professional adjudicators. Placements of 1st, 2nd and 3rd will also be awarded in all categories (except for the Performance Division). Every dancer receives a medal.
Please chat with your dancer about their expectations, and that this is a great first benchmark for the remainder of the competitions. The hope would be to improve on your score / placement moving forward. Each category also looks at different things, so it’s really hard to compare a placement in a tap category with one in a lyrical category.
PRO PLATINUM 95 - 100
PLATINUM 91 - 94.99
HIGH GOLD 88 - 90.99
GOLD 85 - 87.99
HIGH SILVER 82 - 81.99
SILVER 79 - 81.99
BRONZE 76 - 78.99
Our adjudicators use the full range - from bronze to pro platinum, and only award platinum when they believe a routine is ready for the next level. Dancers who earn two or more platinum solo awards will move up a level the following competition year.
What do the awards / adjudication sessions look like?
All dancers who competed in the session will go onstage for awards at their scheduled time. Dancers are not permitted to take their phones onstage with them and are representatives of the studio at this time. They need to be wearing their Bella Beats team jackets, and are expected to cheer for all dancers and receive their award with grace. All of the competitions score differently.
Please Remember… Dance is subjective. Three judges can look at the exact same routine and have three different opinions. The very next day, those same three judges can look at the exact same routine, and their opinion can vary. This doesn’t happen in other sports. When a ball goes in the basket, you get points. When the puck goes in the net, you get points. When the ball is in the end zone, you get points. When a dancer goes on stage, you have to take into account the judges personal background, their personal preferences, their personal belief, their training. A dancer can’t control that. A parent certainly can’t control that. A teacher or director can’t control that. When a dancer leaves the stage - ask them 3 questions:
Did you have fun out there?
Did you do your best based on what your best looks like TODAY?
Did you learn and improve since last time?
