2026 Competition Entry Notes FOR ALL DANCERS:
All dancers are to arrive at the competition venue, STAGE READY with Hair & Make up done 60 MINUTES prior to their performance time.
If you plan to do your hair, make-up and change at the venue you need to arrive earlier than your call time, and parents are NOT permitted in the dressing rooms, so plan accordingly.
We often have a lot of dances & dancers to run in a short amount of time. If you arrive and you are not ready to go you might not get to run your dance or warm up with our instructors.
Dancers with more than one dance in a session, should arrive in their first costume and plan to bring all of their belongings in one bin/basket/bag.
Dancers will meet in the backstage Dressing Rooms. Usually each studio has an assigned dressing space, so please ask a competition staff member if you can’t find us easily.
Please do not leave your child until you have handed them off to an BDA team member.
Parents are not permitted in the backstage area.
Please make sure that your dancer has a nutritious meal before coming to the theatre, and they are packed to stay hydrated and nourished for the day.
Dancers are expected to be present (on stage) for their award sessions - they should have costume on, and team jacket on. Absolutely no cell phones are to go on stage with the dancers during award sessions.
The audience is open to spectators at full capacity. Dancers are expected to watch the rest of their team perform, unless they are required to be backstage getting ready for their own performance. We ask that dancers and parents do not go in/out of the theatre many times, and observe best practices and etiquette in the audience.
Please note that each piece is eligible to be invited back for a showcase performance of selected pieces (sometimes these are based on scores, and sometimes these are based on judge’s choice) at the very end of the competition. If your piece is invited back, your dancer is required to be there.
Dancers must NOT leave the competition location without a parent / chaperone / guardian or parental permission to BDA staff.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO BRING – Each dancer is required to pack their own personal items & accessories, including all hairpieces that came with your costumes and any hand held props.
Costume:
Dancers must wear their full costume (including tights), and bring the appropriate dance shoes (listed on Dancer Information Sheet).
Team Jacket
If your dancer is in more than one piece, they should arrive in their first costume, and they will be able to store their costume in the change room upon arrival.
We highly suggest a labeled ziploc bag for each costume, that includes all accessories, tights, etc. If needed, please pack a garment bag for costumes that should be hung, to avoid wrinkles.
Hair:
Please double check the Dancer Information Sheet for instructions on your hair requirements for each piece. If you need further clarification, please ask Miss Phoenix or Miss Quin directly.
Standard Stage Make Up:
Please double check the Dancer Information Sheet for some specific make up notes
Blush, Eyeliner, Mascara, Red/Pink Lipstick, and Eyebrows will typically need to be darkened!
Undergarments: Clear bra straps or no bra straps showing underneath costumes (nothing should be visible through the mesh or cut outs). Underwear must be appropriate and cannot be seen through tights/costume. (The best option is a nude bodysuit without undergarments that can be worn underneath all costumes and makes costume changes quick and comfortable)
Accessories:
No earrings or jewelry permitted
No Nail Polish on Fingers or Toes
We will have a studio emergency kit with us - but it is a good idea for your dancer to have a few of each of these items in a small bag with them: Hair Pins, Hair Nets, Hairspray, Gel, Safety Pins, Band Aids, Deodorant
Either Miss Phoenix or Miss Quin will be present on site all day.
Please let us know if you have any questions at all. Many thanks!
