Skills clinics provide a wealth of learning opportunities for RBT Interns. Our clinics are structured in a way that uses the evidence based learning strategy-Behavior Skills Training. Meaning we use 4 distinct components in our teaching.
The first is instruction or teaching of the concept. We do this by pre-recorded videos of a BCBA going over the behavioral principle.
Second is we model the correct way of how something is done. We do this by having our Skills Clinic Leader model the correct way to demonstrate the skill.
The third is we have you role play to practice the skill yourself. This is why if you are attending online a role play partner is essential. If you are attending clinics in person, your leader will serve as your role play partner.
Lastly, we give you feedback on your demonstation of the skill to support your learning.
Clinics are structured in a way to allow for didactic discussion between you and seasoned RBTs.
Clinics serve as a platform to build community between you and your future colleagues.
Clinics provide valuable opportunites to engage in role play of essential behavior analytic skills necessary to begin your work with clients.
Clinics allow us to initiate your RBT Competency Assessment with is a requirement to obtain your RBT credential.
Skills clinics leaders are Senior RBT's often times also Clinical Interns (e.g., those seeking BCBA or BCaBA fieldwork hours) who have displayed advanced clinical skills when working with clients and professional skills as a BCI employee. Your skills clinic leader will facilitate your learning through each phase of your training.
An Assistant Assessor is a Senior RBT or Clinical Intern who has completed advanced training in evaluating clinical skills requires for your RBT Competency Assessment. Your Assistant Assessor will grate your assignments following your participation in clinics and let you know if your assignment passed or requires retesting. They are evaluating each demonstrated skills test to ensure you performed the principle with minimum competency.
A skills test is our way of evaluating your performance on a certain behavioral strategy. Skills tests are required assignments that your Assistant Assessor will use to evalute essential clinical skills outlined on the BACB's RBT Competency Assessment. Each phase of clinic has certain skills tests that must be submitted and that will be evaluated.
Being able to practice skills learned is an essential component of learning. We want to ensure you are fully prepared to begin your work with a client, and role playing essential behavior principles in a contrived setting where we can give you feedback better prepares you for when you begin work with your client. In the event you may not have a role play partner we ask that you communicate this in advance so we can support you with troubleshooting.
Your clinic partner can be any adult or child so long as they are able to follow simple instructions. A role play partner will only be required for phases 1 & 2. A role play partner will not be required for phases 3 & 4.
While we highly encourage attending online clinics with a role play partner we understand barriers may arrise prohibiting this. In the event you forsee any barriers towards having a role play partner, reach out to training for additional support in advance. If your partner becomes unavailable on the same day as your scheduled clinic, please still attend your scheduled clinic. We do not want this to delay your training progression to complete your RBT Internship. Just let your skills clinic leader on that day and they will guide you on best next steps so you can participate.
If you are feeling eager and awaiting your clinic date to begin you may submit your first round of skills tests.

Once you have completed all 4 phases of skills clinics and submitted your skills tests, then someone from BCI will be in contact with you on your employment status. While you are well on your way towards your RBT Certification, the BACB requires certain skill areas (i.e., tasks) on the RBT Competency Assessment be assessed "with a client". Therefore, the remaining tasks needed to finalize your RBT Competency Assessment for your RBT Exam Application will be evaluated by your Primary Clinician once you are paired with your first client.
After your Primary Clinician finalizes your assessment:
You will be sent a signed copy of your RBT Competency Assessment will all tasks evaluated
Be sent instructions on how to submit your RBT Exam application on the BACB website
Lastly, you will be able to move forward and apply to take your RBT exam
