Individuals can pursue their 40 Hour Training certification through a number of approved training programs. At BCI our RBT Interns get FREE access to a BACB approved 40- hour training.
Upon an individual’s acceptance into our RBT Internship Program you will get instructions to sign up to begin your 40 hour training.
We kindly ask that you create your CentralReach Institute account and start your online training within 48 hours of receiving your acceptance email.
To facilitate your learning BCI has created a complimentary Course Companion.
Completion of the 40-hour training is the first step toward becoming an RBT.
Attend Phase 1-4 of Skills Clinics (2.5-Hour per Clinic = 10 Hours Total).
If attending an online Skills Clinic, a role play partner is required for the entire duration of the first 2 Skills Clinics only.
If attending one of our on-site Skills Clinics a role play partner will be provided for you.
Attendance to all 4 phases of skills clinics is a BCI training requirement.
Only a 1 time accomodation is granted at this phase. Therefore, please ensure you can be successful completing all 4 phases for the clinic you are signed up for.
The BACB requires evaluation of clinical skills and an Initial RBT Competency Assessment be complete as part of the RBT certification process.
We collect assignments during each clinic to meet this requirement and you will be responsible for passing each skills test.
Per the BACB some skills require evaluation "with a client" therefore the finalization of your Initial Competency Assessment will be completed by your Primary Clinician once paired and working with your client.
Assignments collected during skills clinics are required for the finalization of your RBT Competency Assessment. Please submit all requires skills tests and retests within given deadlines to remain on track.
After signing up our RBT Interns must complete no less than 8 modules per week in order to keep their seat in the RBT Internship program. This keeps each intern eligible to sit for the RBT certificate within a 45 day period to gain timely access to work.
You want to conceptualize your skills clinics as an extended job interview. While participating in clinics you are evaluated on 9 core professionalism areas. Feedback on your performance during clinics and how you interact across stakeholders will be taken into consideration as we determine if you are recommended for hire with BCI. To best prepare yourself for your skills clinic please take a moment to watch our RBT Internship Expectations video and reach out with any questions in advance.
Due to the requirements outlined by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB), you must have a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) assigned as your supervisor to complete the Registered Behavior Technician certification process. If you are offered a position of employment, BCI will assign a BCBA as your clinical supervisor. If you are not offered a position of employment, you will be provided with your 40-hour training certificate and will be eligible to apply for a position with another agency.
Following completion of your background check and offer of employment, you will be paired with a client and be assigned a Primary Clinician. Your primary clinician will help you finalize your RBT Competency Assessment. This is a requirement of the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) to ensure that RBT interns are able to perform the practical clinical skills obtained during coursework completion with a client.
Your finalized RBT Competency Assessment is the last thing you will need before you are eligible to apply for the RBT exam.

What if I can't make my scheduled Skills Clinic?
Please notify your RBT Internship Training Coordinator as soon as possible in the event you may not be able to make your pre-scheduled skills clinic. We can troubleshoot options with you at that time. While we understand things come up, at this time we can only extend a one time accomodation for any clinics missed. This is to ensure you get timely access to work and timely completion of all training requirements.
