Behavior Change Institute’s Care Coordination & Scheduling team makes every attempt to expeditiously pair Registered Behavior Technicians with clients that match their location, availability for session and general experience and comfort level.
To help ensure timely client pairing, technicians are responsible for maintaining updated availability within CentralReach.
Technicians are required to maintain the following availability (minimally) in order to remain eligible for work with Behavior Change Institute:
Monday/Wednesday/Friday from 3 - 7pm and one weekend day for at least 3 consecutive hours per day ;
OR
4-days per week (Monday-Friday) from 3 - 7pm for at least 3 consecutive hours per day.
In the event the employee is unable to maintain the required availability, employment will be subject to termination. Additionally, Behavior Change Institute conducts regular audits of employee engagement and if an employee is not paired with a client for longer than 90 days at any point during employment, BCI reserves the right to terminate employment.
In the event you are hired for a Registered Behavior Technician position following your Internship with Behavior Change Institute, we will be required to credential you with our health insurance partners. Most health insurance companies require Behavior Technicians to possess a National Provider Identification number. You will be guided to create a National Provider Identification number, an electronic signature and to scan and send your social security card to our Insurance Credentialing office.
If you've already provided consent for the Credentialing Coordinator to register and apply for your NPI Number, no further action is required.
If you have already provided consent to use your e-signature via the Credentialing Packet no further action is required unless the signature is deemed not acceptable (i.e. computer generated, initials, does not reflect legal first and last name, not legible). In which the Credentialing Coordinator will reach out to gather an e-signature that meets BCI's requirements (pictured below).
*** Electronic Signature Requirements ***
Include your first and last legal name as it appears on both your ssc and driver’s license. No initials.
Must be completed in black ink.
Imperative that your first and last name is legible. I must be able to read/spell your first and last legal name.
Be sure to "draw" your signature and avoid using the electronic font option.
These items are required by the insurance groups we work with in advance of employment to ensure that you will be credentialed as a provider of ABA therapy with Behavior Change Institute. This process typically takes between 4-6 weeks across all of our funding sources and it is essential that you submit these documents in a timely manner during your internship to ensure that you are able to work with clients if accepted for employment from the RBT internship program.
Once you have completed the internship, please also provide BCI with your RBT registration number (provided in a formal email from the Behavior Analyst Certification Board) and your Basic Life Support card so we can also submit these documents to the insurance groups we have partnered with.
BCI requires interns to complete either a Basic Life Support (BLS) or a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) course for healthcare providers through either the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association. Proof of this certification is required within one month after completing orientation. RBT Interns should take the course at a physical location where they will perform basic life saving skills with a certified instructor. Hybrid courses are acceptable just as long as the skills testing is completed in front of a certified instructor. The cost for this course averages $95 depending on the location. The course is approximately three hours in length. Registration for the BLS or CPR course can be done online:
Most health insurance companies require Behavior Technicians to possess a National Provider Identifier (NPI) number. A National Provider Identifier or NPI is a unique 10-digit identification number issued to health care providers in the US by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). This number is used by all health plans and health care clearinghouses for administrative and financial transactions adopted under HIPAA. Individuals or organizations apply for NPIs through the CMS National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES).
For most ABA companies, obtaining an NPI number is a prerequisite to working as a Behavior Technician.
In order to become a credentialed ABA provider, a copy of your social security card will be required.
To expedite the process in the event that you are offered employment by Behavior Change Institute, please locate your social security card. If you are not able to locate your social security card then please take the necessary steps to order a replacement card. You can find more information here on how to order a replacement card. Please ensure that your legal name is shown on both your social security card and driver’s license. These two names must match.
You do not need to upload a copy to your CentralReach account at this time, but a copy will be requested immediately if you are offered employment.
Why do I have to get BLS certified and get an NPI number?
Current insurance policies require RBTs to be BLS certified and have an NPI number. The process to acquire both can take some time. To delay the gap between employment and being paired with a client, we recommend you complete this step as soon as possible.
