The BCHPA in partnership with Bee BC Program funding established a province wide real-time hive monitoring project in 2019-2020. Bee hives have been equipped with electronic devices that measure: temperature inside the hive, humidity inside the hive, the weight of the hive, temperature outside, humidity outside. The devices record every hour. The results are presented as graph trends. The system works quite well, although there are hiccups when a device may go offline due to simple things like dead batteries or disturbance by the beekeeper.

Currently the project has a mix of 42 full hives and nucleus colonies being monitored across all of BC and 5 more hives in the Yukon. Each hive has an anonymous web address that can be viewed by anyone anywhere in the world at any time.

There are members of the BC Peace Region Bee Club participating in the project and have local hives that are equipped with these devices. Here below are the links to the 8 Peace Region hives that are in the project. By looking at the trends for these hives, you may get some ideas of what may be happening with your own colonies at any point in time throughout the year.
