Attendance
ATTENDANCE POLICY IN PRACTICE 2023-24
IE’s attendance policy seeks 100% attendance. If students do not attend at least 80% of the course’s sessions, they will automatically fail the course. For in-person programs, students are required to attend sessions on campus.
In each session, the professor must mark any student as Absent who is not present in the classroom. For those exceptional situations where a student is connected online without any justification, that session should be marked as absent. It is recommended to take attendance first and then open Zoom.
If a student approaches the professor to ask for an absence to be excused, the professor must refer the student to Program Management (PM). The professor CANNOT justify any type of absence from the classroom or allow online attendance that counts as positive attendance. This policy is to uphold the professor’s academic relationship with the student, and to avoid any extra burden on professors.
The PM will only authorize online attendance (which would count as positive attendance) due to force majeure reasons with a prolonged nature and will inform the professors of the student and the sessions involved.
Retake students in undergraduate programs are not required to attend classes. PM will notify the professors, and they will mark them as Excused. Professors will inform students of any deliverables/tests they must do (if any) prior to the final exam. Group work is NOT to be assigned to retakers.
If two or more sessions are scheduled “back-to-back”, attendance must be completed for each session so that the attendance percentage is calculated correctly.
The late option is not to be used. Once the class has begun, students must be marked absent.
If a student leaves the session early, professors should change their attendance to absent.
When in doubt, professors should mark a student absent and send an email to PM. If the attendance should be changed, PM will inform the professor.

There are two tools available in Blackboard to record classroom attendance:
· Qwickly Attendance : (External tool) offers 2 ways to take the attendance that you can alternate.
QR code: At the beginning of each session the professor has to open the application which will generate a QR code that students have to scan with their mobile phone to register their presence in the classroom.
Manually - roll call. Using the LIST option.
· Blackboard Attendance: (Native)is a manual control tool. The professor has to do a roll call.
Bear in mind that these tools are not connected so if you start using one of them, it is not possible to copy the attendance from one tool to the other one. (unless you do it manually click here to know how to add a past session to Qwickly Attendance)
For DOUBLE SESSIONS:
option A. take the attendance again (step 3) or
option B. take the attendance manually
A - Qwickly Attendance
STEP 1: find Qwickly Attendance in your course
Qwickly is an external tool, by default you will find it under the course conten area.

Session Title If you leave it blank, the system by default will add today's date to the title (you can add information e.g 1st of double session)
Start check in /Iniciar Registro. This will launch the QR code
Once the QR code is launched, be sure to display it on the big screens so that the students can scan it easily.
Ask the students to open the APP on their phones and scan the code.
(Note that the QR code changes every second, to avoid students passing the code to classmates that they are not in class.)
If a student has problems using the app, don´t waste time, just write down the name of the student and later you will be able to mark it as present.
You can end the check in before the check in period is finished.
Once you stop the check in case, you press start check in again, a different column (session) will be created. In other words, you can not resume the check in for the same session using QR code. If you need to update the attendance for one specific session, access RECORDS /REGISTROS from the menu on the left.
For DOUBLE SESSIONS press start check in again or you can do it manually from Records/Registros.
