At Barratt Fitness, we aim to support charities and programs that aligns with our aims; helping those who need support delve into the world of sport and fitness. We believe everyBODY deserves the right to better health and wellbeing options, whether that be in the form of nutrition, activities, sport or education.
This is a completely optional donation which you can add to your cart before completing checkout of your online class ticket.
You will receive notification where your money has gone and how this will help our community!
We thank you for your unbound generosity!
Our Stretch and Flexibility classes are open to everyBODY.
We endeavour to make our classes inclusive, fun and a way for you to move your body that will make you feel good and improve your overall mobility over time. We do work on things like splits, back bends and bridges however these will always be done on a voluntary basis with lots of other stretch options availabel should you not wish to participate.
Your instructor will always be happy to hear from you should you have any concerns and will always ask at the beginning of classes whether there are distinct areas of injury or recurring pain that should be avoided.
We encourage light but comfortable clothing as you will get warm over the course of a class.
So items like baggy joggers, loose tshirts or even sports bras are all perfect. Socks are also preferable to keep your feet warm during static stretches but may need to be taken off for more active ones.
For our online classes, we even say you can wear your pyjamas for ultimate comfort!
For online classes, we do recommend a couple of items to get you started:
Yoga Blocks (around 2 to 4), made out of either foam or cork
Yoga Mat (optional, preferable for online training)
Non-stretch Strap (these are used to help aid in certain stretches)
Foam roller / Foam Peanut (for support in certain movements, but also to roll out after stretch class!)
Wrist Supports (optional)
Absolutely, that is exactly what this class is designed for!
We want you to enjoy moving your body in a new way and slowly start to see the changes and benefits over time. This class is not designed to get you into the splits within a certain amount of days (we just don't think its safe!)
Instead, we will work with you individually in a class, giving you moves which can be progressed and regressed depending on how you are feeling on the day.
Yes, as long as you are cleared to participate by a medical professional, we look forward to welcoming you with open arms!
Before each class, your instructor will ask the group if there are any injuries that they need to be made aware of. It is important to let them know at the beginning and during classes how stretches feel to you if you do suffer with any condition that could affect your performance in class.
The instructor is there to guide you on how each stretch should feel, there will be some mild discomfort involved but never severe pain.
If you are ever in a stretch and you feel distinct sharp pain anywhere, please quickly and carefully come out of that stretch and let your instructor know. It is important that you don't injure yourself during our class and we trust you to understand the limits of your body and tell that clearly to your instructor.
Yes, flexibility just like any other part of our training (e.g. strength & stamina) all fluctuate over the course of days, weeks and sometimes even hours!
You may find some days feel much tighter than normal while others you feel bendier than before! This is totally normal and to be expected. The difference we teach in our classes is that consistency matters; so long as you keep up with your stretching exercises, you will see improvements.
The more you stretch in a week (e.g. 3 times a week compared to once a week), the quicker the results will appear.
For (cis) women, your menstrual cycle during your life will play a huge role in how you feel on any given day.
For (trans) men & women, your medical needs during transition can also play havoc with how your body is feeling.
Ultimately, we ask that you LISTEN to what your body is telling you and encourage you to keep open communication with your instructor about how you are feeling on class days; especially if your mood just isn't feeling as up for it as it normally would be.
We appreciate you still attending and will keep you motivated little by little and as often as we can.
