The wasteland’s changed, darlin’. New words, new sights, pages updated and stories stirred. Thought you knew it? Look again.
Hermitville is a nomadic caravan of gentle souls who carry their entire worlds upon their backs. To the outside eye, they resemble a slow-moving village of human hermit crabs, but amongst themselves, they are little mountains, ever shifting with the wind, seeking to disturb the earth as little as possible.
Each member of Hermitville builds and customizes their own shell a personal haven crafted from scrap. These shells are not merely practical shelters, but expressions of identity. Adorned with charms, wind-chimes and beads they serve as a living history of the people and places each traveller has known.
They move with reverence, practicing a motion known as Xtro (pronounced 'ex-tro') a carefully trained, near-soundless way of walking designed to minimize noise and impact. They believe that the world is tired and wounded, and that healing can only come through rest.
They communicate in a unique language of hand signals, soft hums, and gentle taps against their shells. It is said that their conversations are often more about feeling than fact, more rhythm than reason.
When a member of Hermitville passes on, they are entombed within their shell, which is sealed shut and the caravan moves on while the shell is left behind. Over time, as the winds carry sand and soil over it, the shell becomes the seed of a new mountain.
