One Rock to the Other

On the left coast of Canada is a big rock called Vancouver Island. That is where I live. On the right side of Canada is a big rock called Newfoundland. That is where I'm headed! This song is about a cross-country van drive from coast to coast.

I Got Freedom

The countdown is on, spring and the big cross-country adventure is on its way. In the meantime I'm writing and recording songs about the upcoming freedom. That's what this song is all about. I Got Freedom.

On The Road

I was a young lad of fifteen years old in 1973 when I wrote this song, "On The Road." I had a dream to go travelling with a 12-string guitar and play my music. I got the 12 string guitar in 1976 and performed live music all over western Canada in the 80s. Now in the year 2020 the dream to travel has blossomed big time and it's now time to hit the road!

Drivin'

While waiting for the pieces to fall into place to start the great adventure. I keep writing and recording songs about traveling, hitting the open road, crusin', motorin' etc. That's what "Drivin" is all about. A rockin' tune good for traveling!

Runnin' Away from Home

I'm packing up my stuff, selling most of it, jumping in a van, leaving friends and family behind, and heading off to the east coast of this big country. After all these years I'm finally running away from home! Don't worry, I'll be back!

It Is What It Is

I was starting to write an instrumental track for the upcoming CD, "The Adventures of Backroads Brent," when I realized I already have an excellent instrumental song. I re-recorded, "It Is What It Is" a song from the 2003 Brent & Woofy CD, "Under A Star."You will recognize this song as the theme song of the Brent & Woofy Radio Show. (2007-2013.) It will make an excellent addition to the new Backroads Brent CD. Thanks to Scott MacLeod for supplying the excellent bass track.

One Town Closer To You

I wrote One Town Closer To You in 2007. It's a song about being in a travelin band and getting closer to home one town at a time.

Comin in on a Train

I moved to the big city when I was 17 years old. A few years later my teenage sweetheart came to visit. She came on a train, of course. While the wine was chilling I was waiting for her arrival I wrote this song. I haven't seen Sue in like 35 years! Maybe more! I still remember her visit!

I Got Freedom Blues

I picked up my guitar and was thinking, before the van trips starts I should write a blues song for the upcoming CD. I started going through chords and soon realized that I was playing the same chord progression as I wrote for my song, I've Got Freedom. Why fight it? I recorded a different version of the song. I like it!

Born in the Middle

As the dark and gloomy days of winter start to give way to the buds and blossoms of spring 2020, I am wrapping up "The Adventures of Backroads Brent" CD. It's getting close to getting the journey started! Keeping in tradition of the travelling songs I wrote "Born in the Middle" as a reference to the fact that I was born in the middle of Canada and have never ventured East. But I'm a'gonna!

Here We Come

I am writing and recording songs about travel for Backroads Brent CD, "The Adventures of Backroads Brent." I wrote this song about a travelling band, reminds me of my youth when I used to play on the road, but never as crazy as the guys in this song! Rock on!

Just One Time Too Many Times

I know this isn't a traveling song but the virus scare spring of 2020 had postponed travel; so I wrote and recorded this song after I received a phone call from a certain you-know-who ... a ghost from the past. Too easy to start all that again... To hard to stop. "This tale has no ending if beginning ain't born."

Dr. Karona V. Fever

Dr. Karona V Fever is the name I have given to the Coronavirus. I wrote this song due to the fact that the timing of the virus scare couldn't be any worse for me as I was just about to get the ball rolling to go on my Backroads Brent Cross Country journey.
