A subsection to my master's thesis consisted of programming dangerous driver-bicyclist encounters as passive scenarios that users can experience.
The hypothesis behind the purpose of these scenarios is that drivers may develop awareness, knowledge, and empathy towards bicyclists after experiencing these dangerous encounters from their perspective.
For example, drivers sometimes think they are giving bicyclists enough distance on the road when they are not, and experiencing that situation themselves might help them understand how it feels.
The scenarios themselves are passive, users can't control the simulation but are able to experience each situation from a first person perspective. The scenarios are also available as 360 degree videos so more people can experience them outside the simulator - this works especially well on smartphones.
A playlist containing all the scenarios can be found here.
