Personally, journalistic writing has been a hard journey to accomplish. I had trouble learning to write in a journalist mindset as opposed to an english essay. It was challenging to balance a conversational tone while also remaining true to the story. Learning to ask important questions, transcribing interviews, and writing scripts were hard challenges for me. Despite these circumstances, I learned to effectively write stories that reflect the core purpose of telling the story.
With the Festivals of Nations being my first story, I had to practice news gathering by finding more information on the day of the event. I talked to my main interview, Jeni Chandler, about the event during and after the event. In terms of writng, I learend about providing the more factual information as a reporter and letting the interviewee drive the emotion they want to bring to the story.
The Growth
My confidence in journalistic writing has improved since the beginning of my journey. With writing transcriptions, asking questions, and filming interviews taught me how your writing is the core part of a story. I learned the importance of remaining neutral yet engaging script to gain you audience's attention.
