As the 2024 - 2025 Executive Producer, I have taken on more responsibilities to make sure that our whole production goes smoothly. Having a leadership role has taught me to be more flexible and think quick on my feet. I have to make sure to always sharpen my skills in order to set an example to strive for excellence in storytelling. In terms of my classmates, this position pushes me to foster friendship and collaboration in my class. Although I have been Executive Producer for 4 months, I am grateful to have a role where I can use all of my skills to contribute to WTHS.
During the Southern Interscholastic Press Association (SIPA), I was elected for the Vice President of the Student Board Committee. This opportunity opened many doors for me, where I have collaborated with other students and board directors to make it the best it can be.
I was able to teach my classmates about editing, specifically, editing an video intro. One of my favorite things I did for WTHS was making the show intro. I had created a fun presentation with an activity alongside with it. The class got to learn some of my tips to make a good intro while getting to create their own.
I was given the honor to represent WTHS for MSPA's Live Coverage Challenge. I got to meet with other student journalist across Mississippi to participate in creating a news story in 3 hours. I also got the chance to be mentored by the journalism students at the University of Southern Mississippi. This challenge has definitely taught me to be more fast in creating a project. It was really fun to collaborate with passionate students to make this a great learning opportunity for all.
I was apart of a task to compete in the STN Holiday Challenge. I worked with Thomas Roper, Channing Hooper, and Julia Jane Averette to create this story. This challenge was interesting because we had only 6 days to complete the story but we didn't find out until 3 days later. My role especially was to edit the story and also getting b-roll shots. Despite the tight deadlines, we all worked together to create this story for the holiday season.
