The competent teacher differentiates instruction by using a variety of strategies that support critical and creative thinking, problem-solving, and continuous growth and learning. This teacher understands that the classroom is a dynamic environment requiring ongoing modification of instruction to enhance learning for each student.
This quiz was created for my Sophomore Academic English classes while I was student teaching at Andrew High School. This quiz shows how I differentiate instruction based on the needs of the students. This demonstrates my effort as a teacher as I modify instruction based on the fact that the classroom is a dynamic environment.
This quiz show that I am aware and "knows how to implement effective differentiated instruction through the use of a wide variety of materials, technologies, and resources" (5C). I have used technology to create this quiz as students are all given their own device in D230. In addition, I "knows techniques for modifying instructional methods, materials, and the environment to facilitate learning for students with diverse learning characteristics" (5E). This demonstrates that I am aware of the resources and tools the district provides to students. I have even attended a technology professional development on how to better incorporate technology into student learning. Lastly, it shows I, "uses technology to accomplish differentiated instructional objectives that enhance learning for each student" (5N). I have utilized technology like using google forms to create online quizzes instead of the traditional paper and pen quiz.
By creating this google form quiz, I learned about the different ways to differentiate instruction. The quiz was able to be transformed into an interactive quiz in which I could shuffle question and answer order. This allowed me to see a new way to give a quiz and promote differentiated instruction in the classroom.
This paper was written during my student teaching placement for my EDUC454: Student Teaching Seminar. The essay allowed me to reflect on the teaching of a lesson and the classroom environment. It looks at and supports a learning environment that fosters continuous growth and learning.
This paper shows that I am knowledgeable and "knows strategies to maximize student attentiveness and engagement" (5F). While I was teaching and reflecting, I was able to walk around the room to make maximize student engagement in the lesson. In addition, I "varies his or her role in the instructional process as instructor, facilitator, coach, or audience in relation to the content and purposes of instruction and the needs of students" (5K). While I am teaching, I am not just instructing, I am also being more than just a teacher. While students are listening to audio, I am able to monitor student learning or guide students to be on track. Lastly, I "uses strategies and techniques for facilitating meaningful inclusion of individuals with a range of abilities and experiences" (5M). During this reflection of teaching, I noticed I use different strategies such as walking around the room to make sure all students are involved in the instruction. I might even spend more time with my students who have an IEP or 504 plan.
By writing this paper, I was able to reflect on my teaching before and after watching a video of my teaching. I was able to notice how I maximize continuous growth in the learning environment. As well as implementing strategies that will benefit the learning environment and the students learning.
