How I made this Ford themed clutch cover clock
First find a suitable cover, I looked for one with an easy to remove centre.
I chose this heavy duty pull clutch cover, that appeared to be little used
First job was to remove the heavy metal plate.
Drill off the heads of the rivets securing the straps
Then using a punch or drift, knock the rivet through to separate the parts
Next job is to remove all rust, either wire brush or use an electric drill etc.
I am lucky as I can use an industrial rust removing machine at work
As the centre diaphragm plate was in very good order after blasting, I decided to give it a clear coats of lacquer
The outer shell was first put in primer, then a ford dark blue paint was used on both sides
When I fitted the diaphragm I reversed it as it looked better. On this clutch , it had 4 prongs that you could bend back to retain it.
I stuck the Ford logo badge first before drilling the 8mm hole, as i want the Hole to be central after it is fitted
Once hole is drilled then it time to assemble the clock. Get all the pieces ready.
Assemble the hour hand first, then minute, then second. Line them all up at the 12 o'clock position.
Once fitted, trial test by turning the wheel at the back of the clock mechanism, going through a 12 hour cycle to ensure hands do not touch each other
Never adjust the time moving the hands as this could affect the gearing inside.
There you have it, you own unique clock.
