How I made this Alfa Romeo themed clutch cover clock from a very rusty old item
I found this very old rusty clutch cover
First job was to remove the heavy metal plate.
Drill off the heads of the rivets securing the straps
Then using a punch or drift, knock the rivet through to separate the parts
Luckily I had use of workshop machinery
Before any work to the cover, time to remove rust. I used an industrial media blaster.
Then bolt 2 large penny washers to sandwich the cover.
Ensure there is no galvanising on the washer being welded.
This gives a good mounting plate for the clock mechanism.
The cover was first put in primer, then a dark blue paint was used on both sides
By using a sticker to put on the top penny washer, you can make any theme you want.
Or have no logo and just leave cover as it is.
Assemble the hour hand first, then minute, then second. Line them all up at the 12 o'clock position.
Once fitted, trial test by turning the wheel at the back of the clock mechanism, going through a 12 hour cycle to ensure hands do not touch each other
Never adjust the time moving the hands as this could affect the gearing inside.
There you have it, you own unique clock.
Below is a youtube video i made of it.
