Why use a digital audio recorder?

Recording in a studio environment is often ideal, however you may wish to record an interview on location, at a live event, or in a quiet, comfortable space. For this you will need a portable digital audio recorder.

Audio recorders come in all shapes and sizes but if you don't have access to one you can use a cell phone to record audio. A user friendly digital audio recorder is the Zoom H1, it is very compact and creates high quality recordings.

Tips

• Choose as quiet a location as possible to record.

• Ensure you are getting good levels on the device (averaging between -6 and -3 dB)

• Speak in a loud, clear voice

• If two people are talking, place the recorder between them

• Always make a test recording and listen back to it before you begin.
