Professional Learning and Ethical Practice:
The teacher engages in ongoing professional learning and uses evidence to continually evaluate his/her practice, particularly the effects of his/her choices and actions on others (learners, families, other professionals, and the community), and adapts practice to meet the needs of each learner.
Describe artifact that was used as the example for the standard
I chose to use a reflection from one of my core math lessons that included a report of the students performance and my own personal reflection. The report of students is based on state objectives. It is a reflection on students performance that is written after the lesson is taught and includes remediation for the students who failed to meet an acceptable level of achievement. The person reflection consists of three questions written before the lesson was taught.
Give a rationale on why this activity is appropriate
This artifact is appropriate because through my reflection responses to the three questions I have come up with, I reflected deeply on my teaching and how I could adapt to each students learning needs. I had observed all my students and understand they all have differences in their learning abilities, however, it allowed me to prepare for better, more challenging lessons. These reflections are great for a student-teacher like me to look back on when I am in my own classroom and want to repeat a lesson. I can look in my reflections on what went well and what I could change.
