Leadership and Collaboration:
The teacher seeks appropriate leadership roles and opportunities to take responsibility for student learning, to collaborate with learners, families, colleagues, other school professionals, and community members to ensure learner growth, and to advance the profession.
Describe artifact that was used as the example for the standard
I chose to use both two different parent letters that I sent home with students and two different newsletters that I sent home with students. My newsletters have to do with two different math units that I taught which include measurement and geometry. My first parent letter is called Meet The Student-Teacher which was my initial letter I sent home to let parents get to know who I am and what I was doing in their child's classroom. The second letter I sent home was called A Message From Your Student Teacher. I updated parents on what I have been doing in the classroom and what I will be doing until I leave and graduate. I gave them a synopsis of what we’ve been doing in class across all subjects and what we will be doing. Both times I provided my contact information in case they had any questions for me or concerns.
Give a rationale on why this activity is appropriate
These artifacts are appropriate because I have taken a role as a leader and have taken responsibility and initiative to build rapport with my student’s families. I have taken the time to introduce myself to my student’s families so they knew I would be in their student’s classroom for a while and be teaching them. I also gave families updates on their student’s learning and what they could do at home with their child. Two newsletters were sent home to parents before beginning a measurement unit and a geometry unit. The newsletter provided families with four different types of activities they could do at home with their student that would ensure their learner's growth in the topic. These documents prove that I have taken the leadership role in collaborating with others to ensure learner growth.
