Learning Environment:
The teacher works with others to create environments that support individual and collaborative learning, and that encourages positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self-motivation.
Describe artifact that was used as the example for the standard
My main bulletin board that I made was about the children’s writing. I wanted to take the writing workshop that the students did and turn it into the beginnings of our writing wall. I titled my bulletin board “Writing We Can ROAR About!” I intend to keep it up all year round and change out the students writing pieces as they write more and learn more. I took the whiteboard up as a part of the bulletin board as well. The anchor chart we used for our writing pieces is placed up with the writing so students and parents know what we learned about and what they used for their writing.
Give a rationale on why this activity is appropriate
Bulletin boards are appropriate and powerful learning tools for the classroom. They relay information to students and parents if they come into the room, reinforce lesson, in this case a writing lesson on main idea and supporting details, and they display student work. Writing is something that is heavily focused on in the classroom and this is something students are working on learning how to do. As the year goes on, they will be able to replace their old writing with new writing to show their progress.
