In DM23RP4/X we got a new fun card for Darkness Civilization. DARK MATERIAL COMPLEX provides a new finisher for Darkness Civilization decks, while being a toolbox at the same time (fitting of the Pandora's Box racial archetype).
So, what are the cons to having a ridiculous 1 cost 25000 power world breaker on turn 1?
Well, the card doesn't exactly do anything on turn 1. DARK MATERIAL COMPLEX (DMC) enters the battle zone tapped, and can only be untapped when you have 8 or more cards under it. How do you place cards under? At the start of your turn or whenever another creature leaves (yes, that includes your opponents), you may reveal the card on the top of your deck, then place it under DMC.
The deck is essentially a Handdes deck, but veteran players may swap out some of the cards with CRYMAX Jaouga for a better consistency.
Broom = Proof
Adds the top card of your deck into your graveyard, adding more fodder for KiyuriASMR or Paradoxical Factory. Good anti-meta card that prevents your opponent from flood strategies by preventing them from playing cards except via summoning.
DARK MATERIAL COMPLEX
You want to play him out as soon as possible on turn 1, but don't fret if you run into mana issues and cannot commit to a turn 1 DMC play! The deck plays fast enough to ensure you get 8 cards under it pretty fast. Do note that DMC cannot be removed from the field unless it has 8 or more cards below it, therefore with strategic planning you can ensure your opponent never gets the opportunity to remove it.
Belladonna, Demon Faerie
Early mana ramp. It destroys itself, adding 1 to the DMC stack while giving you the option to either mana ramp or force your opponent to discard 1.
Deddam, Disaster
It's famous enough to be the most known DM card among veterans in JP. Deddam scrys the top 3, then you choose one to add to hand, one to add to mana zone and one to add to graveyard. Incredible card for this deck.
Magatsukaze, Toberutsubasa
An extremely annoying card, this card prevents your opponent from scrying beyond the top card of their deck, or searching their deck, effectively shutting down a lot of cards in the meta such as Bolshack Bakuterasu.
Kiyuri's ASMRadio
A very useful card to pick your toolboxes, this spell allows you to scry top 5 and put 2 3-cost or less creatures. Deddam, Belladonna, Jenny, Magatsukaze, Aple, Broom and School Man are the various options, so do see what situation calls for which card!
Paradoxical Factory
This card sparked off the initial WDN Discard decks, and now with DMC as another alternate finisher this deck will likely resurge. Paradoxical Factory allows you to draw 2, discard 2, then spawn 2 from the graveyard that cost 2 or less. This allows you to call your discard components (Jenny / Belladona) or your anti-meta components (Aple, Broom or Magatsukaze).
School Man / Zombie Carnival
School Man is used as a removal card most of the time, since you're not likely to want to have anything else on the field when you play him to force your opponent to destroy one of their other cards. The shield trigger component, Zombie Carnival, is more commonly used to retrieve your Belladonnas or Magatsukaze and CRYMAX Jaouga (Demonio).
Jenny, Suicide Doll
Despite her being 2-cost, Jenny is not likely to be played early game but moreso a mid game card. She's best played out through KiyuriASMR or Paradoxical Factory, as you have better 2 mana plays like Belladonna for mana or Aple/Broom/Magatsukaze for lockdown. Jenny discards one of your opponent's cards at random, adding to the Hand destruction.
Aple, Young Great Elder
Also another 2 cost that may or may not be played early. Aple is a good lockdown anti-meta card, but is most useful when your opponent is running out of cards since they cannot play cards out of their graveyard or mana zone thanks to his effect. Play him when your opponent is relying on top draw and see his despair.
wD Cyclepedia, Dragment Symbol
It allows you to refresh your Paradoxical Factory /
CRYMAX Jaouga
One of two finishers, CRYMAX Jaouga is also a loss-protection card. He reduces both players down to 3 shields each, is a triple breaker and also discards 2 of your opponent's cards while also destroying a creature on their field. He prevents your losses by allowing you to pop 3 face up cards instead.
Dead Damned, SSS Rank Disaster
Incredibly powerful card, this card can invade from mana, graveyard, hand or battle zone. It allows you to put a card from the battle zone into the opponent's mana zone, graveyard or hand. Your opponent's destruction effects are not triggered, only leave effects will be.
General game plan is to have DMC out on turn 1/2, speeding up mana with Deddam or Belladonna. Playing out Paradoxical / Kiyuriasmr for more discards, locking the opponent down with Aple, Broom and Magatsukaze. Recycling your spells with wD Cyclepedia. Finishing the game off with DMC, Crymax or Dead Damned.
