About Me:
It is my opinion that becoming an occupational therapy assistant takes a specific personality type that not all people possess. I have always believed that I am exactly that kind of person. I am patient, understanding, caring, and I value work that is for the betterment of others. The role of an occupational therapy practitioners is to help patients develop, recover, and improve the skills needed for daily living and working. They strive to help patients with injuries, disabilities, or illnesses participate in purposeful activities. My early interest in occupational therapy stems from my time volunteering at Rainbow Express, a summer camp for children with disabilities. I was able to aid in teaching kids how to bounce a ball, concoct slime, and blow bubbles. I enjoyed seeing their faces light up as they learned how to play games with each other. I realized that I wanted to make a career out of teaching others the skills that they need to participate in activities that they love. I am deeply invested in the journey of the individual. Seeing their success is exciting, and playing even a small part in it is meaningful. I am excited to be a student in the SLCC occupational therapy assistant program and I look forward to graduating in spring of 2025!
