Year 1: In my first year in the honors program I had not completed an experience and I was not able to plan a summer filled with volunteering. In my first semester of college I had bitten off more than I could chew and was focusing on trying to adjust to college level courses. In my second semester some personal things happened that made doing anything more than classwork difficult. So since I had planned to volunteer that summer but had not had the time to plan anything, I rearranged my experiences to take an honors course in my sophomore year. Although I did not complete any experiences, I took the Honors 1015 course which taught me what being an honors student meant and helped me meet new people at a commuting campus.
Year 2: This year I met with my honors advisor, Claudia Skutar, in spring semester to check on my progress in the honors program. From the year before, I did not feel confident with my progress, but I had a plan to complete my two experiences for the next spring semester. My new plan was to take the Honors 2091 course in spring 2020 semester and then I would go on a study abroad that summer. Meeting with her helped to reassure me that I was on the right track and she helped me answer questions about the expectations for this portfolio. We connected on our passions for conserving the environment and it was encouraging to know that I had an advisor to help me through the honors process.
