Kids at this age who are homeschooling typically spend 2 - 4 hours a day working on "academic" subjects. Two hours is plenty for the youngest ages, interspersed throughout a day with lots of playing. A typical day for a 6 year old might be: 20 minutes of reading practice, play, 20 minutes of writing practice, play, lunch, 30 minutes of math, play, and then 30 minutes of "curiosity time" with library books about animals, science, history, or geography. That's it!
