The last activity of the Erasmus+ starts on the 4th of March, and will last until the 10th, destination: Greece. At the airport in Athens we were welcomed by our hosts from the Chaidari High School. The aim of this activity was to create an Audio guide for the final exhibition that would explain all of the works of art created during this project.
On the first day we all met at the School’s auditorium, with a presentation from the pupils and the Head Master. After that, it was the time of the Ice Breaking Activity to make us start to know each other. We then assisted to an interesting presentation of the Greek world compared to today’s reality. The second part of the day was dedicated to preparing the final exhibition of the project and the presentation of the videos of the works in progress and some videos of the finished works of art being installed.
On the second day, in occasion of the anniversary of the death of Melina Mercouri, an important actress and politician that fought for taking back one of the Elgin Marbles now in the London Museum, we visited the Acropolis Museum which was built to host all the ancient Greek finds from the Bronze Age to the Byzantine Era. We then visited the Acropolis and had a break. In the afternoon, after visiting an art gallery called “The Beard Pictures” from Gilbert and George, we were divided into two groups and had a historic city tour and an artistic graffiti tour.
The third day was dedicated to visiting the Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center, which hosts the National Library of Greece and the Greek National Opera. The modern cultural center was designed by Renzo piano, in a way that minimizes the environmental impact. During our visit we had a soothing walk in the park and an artistic workshop based on architecture. In the afternoon we went to school and we divided into groups to work on the debate based on the question “How could Europe contribute to encouraging artistic initiatives in cities?”
On day 4 we visited the Heraklion Museum and we had a Maths workshop about perspective, fractals, geometry, patterns and the Golden ratio. After visiting the museum we attended another tour of the city.
During the last day we visited a part of the historical center of Chaidari and med the Mayor to talk about the artistic policy of the town with his team We had a free afternoon so that we could get ready for the goodbye party organized for the evening.
The morning of the 10th of March we met at the airport, so we said goodbye to each other, happy for the wonderful week we spent together and sad for the end of it. It was not only the end of the activity, but it was the last one of the Erasmus+ project, so this really meant a lot to us, but the bonds we created during this week will not end with the project.
