Teaching
Here you would find some details of the courses that I have taught at IIT Kanpur in the past and of that/those I am teaching in the current semester.
Advanced Quantum Field Theory
This is a second course on quantum field theory and called PHY 781. This is aimed at MSc students and PhD students. This covers path integral quantization, non-Abelian gauge theories and aspects of renormalization. This is currently being offered (Spring 2024).
Various details regarding the course appear in a separate page here.
Recommended reading for the course:
Quantum Field Theory. By Mark Srednicki.
An introduction to Quantum Field Theory. By M. Peskin and D. Schroeder.
The Quantum Theory of Fields. By Steven Weinberg.
Quantum Field Theory
This is a first course on quantum field theory and called PHY 681(A). This is aimed at MSc students, senior undergraduates and beginning PhD students. The basics of QFTs, in terms of canonical quantization, are covered. This was offered in Fall 2023.
Recommended reading for the course:
An introduction to Quantum Field Theory. By M. Peskin and D. Schroeder.
The Quantum Theory of Fields Vol 1. By Steven Weinberg.
This is a course on advanced mathematical methods of physics PHY 422A. This is aimed at MSc students and third year undergraduates. It was previously offered in Spring 2018, Spring 2020, Spring 2021. The first half of the course deals with group theory while the second is principally devoted to partial differential equations.
Various details regarding the course appear in a separate page here.
Recommended reading for the first half of the course:
Group Theory: A Physicist's Survey. By Pierre Ramond.
Group Theory and its applications to physical problems. By Morton Hamermesh.
Lie Algebras in Particle Physics. By Howard Georgi.
This is a graduate level course on introducing the ideas and techniques of conformal field theory to MS and beginning PhD students. A familiarity with QFT is assumed. This was offered in Autumn 2021 and Autumn 2020.
Various details regarding the course appear in a separate page here.
Recommended reading for the course:
Conformal field theory. By P. Di Francesco, P. Mathieu, D. Senechal.
Introduction to Conformal field theory. By R. Blumenhagen, E Plauschinn.
Conformal field theory. By S. Ketov.
Various other online lecture notes.
Electrodynamics: A first course.
I co-taught a first course in Electrodynamics. This was a course offered in the Spring of 2020 to first year undergraduates at IIT Kanpur. It is also called PHY 103A.
Various details regarding the course appear in a separate page here.
Recommended reading for the course:
Introduction to Electrodynamics . By D. J. Griffiths.
Feynman Lectures Vol 2. By R. Feynman.
Special and General Relativity
This was a course offered in the Fall of 2019 and was previously taught in the Fall of 2016 to third year undergraduates and first year MSc students at IIT Kanpur. It is also called PHY 407A.
Scanned notes for the course periodically appear here.

Mathematical Methods of Physics I
This is a course on basic mathematical methods that are useful for many aspects of physics, especially theoretical physics. Known as PHY 421A, this is aimed at beginning MSc students and third year undergraduates. This was offered in Fall 2017 and Fall 2018.
Scanned PDF files of the class notes of the course will periodically appear here along with a few extra problems for practise.
Particle Physics
This is a course, also known as PHY 680A, aimed at finishing undergraduates, second year MSc students and beginning PhD students at IIT Kanpur. This is a course that was offered in the Spring term of 2017.
