Obtain a mixing container and stir stick from the front table.
Weigh empty container at one of the scales.
Put 700g to 800g of cement in the container and weigh both.
Calculate the weight of the cement and record it.
Add water to the dry mortar until a pliable mixture is obtained.
Add water slowly at the end as it will get wet very quickly.
Show your sample to the instructor when mixed well.
Put all the mixed mortar in a Pringles container.
Tap the container on the table to settle the mortar.
Shake lightly to remove any voids or bubbles.
Put the cover on the container to seal it.
Bring your cup with remaining water up to be weighed.
On the lid neatly record the following:
Group initial you can use to identify your sample in a months time.
Water volume added
Mass of dry mix used
Have the Lab Supervisor initial the recorded data.
Return your prepared sample to the front.
Wait 3-4 weeks for curing and hardening to take place.
There is no formal report required for this session, but be sure to have your observations signed prior to leaving.
