What can we learn from history about fighting disease? (Socratic seminar): Students will be introduced to the historic 1918/19 Flu Pandemic as a comparison to the COVID-19 pandemic, today. They will discuss in a Socratic seminar.
Cause-and-Effect Pandemics (cause-and-effect exercise and simulation model): Students will work through the cause-and-effect relationships between human actions and epidemic/pandemic outcomes. We will use an online simulation to solidify the understanding of cause-and-effect.
Public Health Policy (research and group work): Students will research public health policy concerning pandemics to support their own final projects.
Work on Final Projects (self-directed group work): Students will conduct self-directed group work toward a specific final project to be presented in the next class.
Presentation of Final Projects: Students will present their own public policy projects to the class. Additional presentation to the entire school community will occur in subsequent weeks (on the class website and in other formats, as appropriate).
