TPE 6 calls on beginning teachers to take charge of their own professional behavior and development as educators and life-long learners. Teachers are expected to honestly reflect on their own knowledge and teaching philosophy, as well as their own values and potential biases. In addition to reflection, teachers must act on their self-understanding and establish professional learning goals to improve their personal growth as learners and professional growth as educators. Teachers must comport themselves with integrity, fairness, and responsibility to all students regardless of background. Teachers must also be aware of their responsibilities as mandated reporters and as representatives of their school and profession, particularly in online forums.
For TPE 6, I have included information about some of my professional development activities over the past year. One big advantage of this COVID year was the transformation of in-person conferences to online platforms that made attendance available to educators all over the world. I have been involved in seminars—local and international—that I never could have attended in person. I anticipate continuing to engage with online (and some in-person ;) conferences and workshops in the coming years.

In this webinar, participants heard from skilled facilitators about how listening circles are being used in a variety of settings to address topics ranging from systemic racism and sexual violence, to the impacts of the pandemic and traumatic events.
