Science is more than an accumulation of facts, it is also a way of investigating and thinking about the world. Your science classes can serve as a guide to yourself as a living being and to the vast natural and physical world that we have inherited.
On this page, you will find links to pages with a collection of resources for students and their families concerning science, online learning, adolescence, and the California Next Generation Science Standards.
During the first week, we will discuss and vote on the norms or rules that will be enforced in our classroom this year. Many rules are negotiable, but there are two master rules that are non-negotiable:
How we implement and enforce these master rules will be decided together. As we create our list of class rules, keep in mind that the most important function of any laws, rules, or policies is not to restrict individual freedom, but to ensure everyone’s freedom to live, learn, and thrive in a safe and respectful environment.
By the end of the second or third week of the school year, we will have a written set of classroom norms and rules for the year, which will be sent home for parents and guardians to review and sign.
Important Note: We will follow all school-wide rules, and we will always protect the rights of each of us to learn in a safe and respectful environment. In the class syllabus, I will provide you with an outline of our topics of study as well as specific policies for assignments, grading, attendance, and late work.
