Throughout my journey of working towards my education degree I have gain many beliefs about being an educator. With the learning of many strategies and ideas I have three beliefs that I will carry throughout my career of being an educator. My three beliefs are having a diverse and inclusive classroom, building positive relationships with students, and supporting the learning needs of students by challenging them and providing the resources that are needed.
Our society has changed throughout the years and that means that our classroom is also changing. Working my way towards becoming a bilingual education teacher, diversity and inclusion is one of my top priorities for my classroom. I want all my students to feel welcome when they walk into my classroom every day. One thing that I can do to accomplish this is, I will try my best to have a classroom library filled with books that are about different cultures, race, and disabilities. There are many students that don’t get accepted by their classmates because they might look, talk, or even learn different, my mission is to make sure that no student feels unwelcome.
I believe that building a positive relationship with students is important. In order to be able to maintain a positive classroom environment, it’s important for students to know they can trust me and that my purpose of being teacher is not to only teach them but also to guide them in wherever they need guidance. Due to whatever circumstances, I might come across students who might not have someone they can talk to about other things besides about school.
I believe that challenging students during their learning is important for them to get out of their comfort zone. For example, student choice is important to me. I want students to feel like they can choose a way to learn that fits best for them. Involving group work is also a great way to challenge my students who might need to work on working with others.
In conclusion, with having an inclusive and diverse classroom, building a positive relationship, and challenging students in their learning I hope that I can be the teacher that my students need.
