Students at AMS use STEM journals to document learning, practice engineering habits, and show their thinking as they progress through the engineering design process. STEM journals are storybooks of student thinking. Inside these pages, you will see bold brainstorms, hands-on investigations, data dives, and redesigns that show real growth. Our students use their journals to capture the process behind the project and make their thinking visible. Students document evidence from all subject level courses as they incorporate into their long-term PBL and daily interdisciplinary connections.
AMS students, teachers, and administrators gathered feedback vertically with our elementary feeder schools and high school STEM Magnet program to create a protocol that was user-friendly and applicable to our student's learning.
Students researched food insecurity in 8th grade as they asked how to decrease food insecurity in our community through the use of hydroponics.
Students made connections between science, math, and ELA. They also used the math to determine mass, volume, and density with a connection to science. Students then studied the macro and micronutrients (elements) to compare soil samples. Hydroponics were then researched to determine their usage in decreasing food security in our community.
Seventh grade students researched how improving pollinator habitats and bluebird nesting boxes could reduce invasive species and promote biodiversity on our campus, in our homes, and throughout the local community.
