Sakana is a Yamaha 30 and was advertised for sale in late 2014 on the Ballard ship channel in Seattle. The ad coincided with my 50 birthday, so thought I deserved something special. She was in poor condition. I moved her to Tacoma and refit her. Several haul outs and a couple of trips to the emergency room for stitches had her ready for the trip down the coast in May of 2015.
Sailing around Tacoma through winter was fantastic. There are lots of interesting destinations with reach of a day sail.
We had many adventures with the boat. But, in the fall of 2016, John and Cheryl offered to buy her. She is currently moored in Hayden Bay.
This is the trusty YSM12 single cylinder Yanmar engine. The motor is quiet and the shallow angle of the long prop shaft made her very efficient. I was concerned about the age of the motor but it never let us down.
The engine is forward on this model, just under the vee berth. Easy access and easy to maintain.
