We spent the summer getting Aquila ready for a cruise up the coast. September weather is always a risk but in 2022 it was amazing. Excellent wind, mild temperatures and sunny days for the whole adventure.
Aquila hasn't been cruised for a long time and we made quite a few underway repairs, things like loose engine and radar mounts and broken battery cables. Nothing that would prevent us from continuing but each breakdown presented an interesting puzzle.
We had a different crew for several legs and everyone was pleasant company. The trip was enhanced with their competence and companionship.
We had three weeks to get up the coast, tour the islands and then get back to work. This may be the best trip we've had.
We cruised from Portland, Oregon to Anacortes with stops in between. The overnight run from Astoria to Neah Bay is about 160 miles. We hoped to sail the whole leg but didn't have the wind for it.
