Alys is a mixed media textile artist, with an interest in activism and art education. She enjoys subverting artistic tropes and using humour to explore taboo themes, as well as using a multitude of techniques and practices to create her pieces. Influenced by second wave feminism and the history of fruit in art, her current work uses the preconceived metaphor of fruits being used as sex and genitalia to create artworks surrounding sex, sexual dysfunction, and mental wellbeing.
Through evocative paintings, sculptures, and immersive installations, Alys aims to promote greater understanding, open communication, and de-stigmatization around sexual dysfunction and its impacts on mental health. The intention of her work is to start a conversation between the audience and their own complex experiences or fears surrounding sex and intimacy. Alys chooses to use her own experience with vaginismus to spread awareness of male and female sexual dysfunctions in raw, personal, therapeutic bodies of work.
Alys is currently based in Bath, UK, and beginning a Postgraduate Certification in Education for Secondary Art and Design.
