THIS STABBING PAIN, (2024), clay, acrylic paint, dissolvable fabric, paint gloss, knife.
THIS STABBING PAIN is a sculpture showcasing a common way people with vaginismus describe the pain off the condition. The act of "stabbing" however insinuates that the other person, the partner, is at fault for the pain, which can lead to sour feelings developing in a relationship. Stabbing is also quite a violent description, which is rightly used for the excruciating pain of experiencing vaginismus. The way we describe pain that others cannot feeling holds various connotations and can sometimes be more destructive than we intend.
