Sexual Dysfunction Series consists of four wet felted pieces. They were inspired by fruit slices that I painted with acrylic paint and left to develop mould. The idea behind the piece is to show the sexual dysfunctions and fears surrounding sex come in all different shapes, sizes, (colours and fruits!). The pink silk creates a merge between the Madonna/Whore complex of red and white, and has connotations of romance and intimacy. Displayed on a wall, the pieces look like silk pillows indicating little beds for for each felted fruit body. The flat yet tactile mouldy fruits leave the viewer with a complex decision of whether to touch the piece of leave it alone. The bright warning colours and furry texture of mould are inherent warning signs to humans, which relates to how those with sexual dysfunctions feel like they need a warning label before delving into intimacy - a constant struggle of whether to touch or not.
