As consumers prioritize healthy eating, concerns about produce longevity lead to waste, frustration, and guilt. Current solutions focus on microbial control but miss an opportunity to influence habits. A product is needed to shift behavior from passively discarding spoiled food to actively seeking and using produce before it goes bad. This product should prompt users to identify nearly expired items and either use or preserve them, extending their lifespan. The solution should emphasize longevity and cost savings, encouraging smarter consumption rather than waste.

Following an initial round of ideation, the most promising concepts were selected for further refinement, ultimately leading to a First In, First Out (FIFO) style storage solution.
After form development and further interviews, a wall-mounted design was finalized to optimize countertop space and provide a gentler rolling angle for delicate fruits. The design is fully adjustable to accommodate a variety of fruit types and ensures clear visibility of all stored items.
Clear 2.5mm acrylic was selected for the final prototyping phase. This material provides enhanced visibility, features a smooth, food-safe surface, and is easy to clean.
Additionally, its heat-forming capability allowed for the replacement of the dowel used in earlier prototypes with an integrated bend in the main form to securely contain the produce.
The flat-lay design streamlines manufacturing and enables flexible sizing to accommodate different types of produce. The design accommodates a wide range of produce sizes, from 5th percentile small lemons to 95th percentile large oranges.
