How can CNC machining and low-cost plywood be leveraged to produce furniture with a luxury aesthetic?
The concept emerged from combining several ideas, aiming to celebrate plywood as a material while introducing playful elements of movement in the furniture.

1:4 scale models were created out of black foam core to evaluate form, balance, and assembly processes. After refining the design, a 1:2 scale model was created to confirm the form’s stability and the rocking motion was smooth.
One challenge was shaping a fluid side profile without sacrificing structural support. Another was managing the heavy plywood. The chair’s center of gravity had to be precisely balanced to rest properly when idle and stay stable during use, preventing backward tipping .
The entire chair was designed to nest into one 4x8-foot plywood sheet, maximizing material efficiency for CNC fabrication.
