PROJECT 1 : ON-SITE OBSERVATION JOURNAL
For our first project, we were fortunate to have a site visit to the Sungai Buloh Valley of Hope Leprosarium. During the visit, we were required to take in the tangible and intangible elements of the site and produce a series of ten annotated sketches onsite.
It was a unique experience to witness the other side of normalcy that was the daily lives of the residents of the Valley of Hope. Throughout the project, there was a growing awareness within myself regarding the importance of preserving and conserving this remarkable experience.
PROJECT 2 : REPORT
Collectively as a group, we were required to investigate the historical, architectural and cultural contexts of the Sungai Buloh Valley of Hope site. As such, we were to produce a report compiling the research that we had done on the settlement.
Through this project, the importance of conserving and preserving the settlement became more apparent; enriched with the further knowledge of its dark past of segregation and ostracization, now being slowly abandoned and fading into irrelevance.
PROJECT 3 : MEASURED DRAWINGS
During the site visit, we were to collect data of the chalets, such as measurements, spatial layouts and the overall architecture. Subsequently, the data were processed to produce a 3D model of the settlement via computer.
A great deal of software experience was obtained via this project. Besides that, I also learned the structure and construction of the chalets as well as the thoughtful planning that was put into making the settlement efficient yet hospitable.
