Bell Ringing at All Saints’ Madeley
There has been bell-ringing at the historic church in Madeley for hundreds of years. This great tradition has acted as a call to worship and marker of moments of civic importance and commemoration for many years.
We are very fortunate to have a very dedicated organiser of bellringing in Madeley where we have seen some wonderful developments:
· Monday afternoons play host to a multi-age bellringing training and induction programme where new learners and established bellringers practice and learn new skills.
· On Thursday mornings a solitary bell or perhaps a few of the bells are rung before the 10AM Holy Communion service.
· On Sunday mornings bells are rung before the 11am service.
· Our tower occasionally plays host to visiting bellringers who will ring for an hour or two.
· Our bells are rung at weddings.
· Sometimes the bells are rung at funerals or memorial services.
· Bells may also be rung at moments of civic and national mourning or times of celebration.
· Our dedicated team have begun an innovative way of training and building up the work and experience of younger ringers though working in collaboration with other bellringers.
· Our dedicated team also help to lead a handbells group that is very much a support to well-being for those who attend.
· Our dedicated team have worked to make bellringing accessible by their involvement in Heritage day activities each September.
· Every year we receive many positive comments about our bells, about the dedication that our ringers take to their craft, even ringing Christmas tunes on the bells.
