The Competition is on May 9th, 2026 at Pioneer High School (map)
Schedule Overview:
Arrive at Pioneer High School 30 minutes before your Competition Start Time (see event times below)
Wear your Red Allen Science Olympiad T-shirt (T-shirts will be handed out at practices closer to the competition)
When you arrive head to at Allen's home base in the Pioneer Cafeteria. Look for people in Red Allen T-shirts. Check in with Allen's Head Coach or your Event Coach
If you are dropping your child off, please be sure to sign them in and out on the Attendance Sheet. Without a parent, the student cannot leave the Allen Homebase except for their event, award ceremony, or bathroom use
A 10-15 minutes before the event begins your child will be escorted by their Coach with their team members to their event. Only student participants will be allowed past the event check-in (No parents or coaches allowed!)
At the end of the event, your child will be escorted by their Coach back to the Allen Homebase where you can pick them up.
Students will attend a grade-level ceremony as a team at the Pioneer Gym. Parents are invited to sit in the bleachers to watch.
Other Details:
The entrance to the primary parking lot is off S. Main Street. The entrance from W. Stadium is to be used for drop-off only. Dropping off students is discouraged. If necessary, students should be dropped off with an adult or with an adult waiting to receive them. No unaccompanied students will be permitted to enter the building!
Allen Elementary will have a designated space at Pioneer High School in the Cafeteria to set up a home base. This will be where our students/coaches/families gather between events and awards ceremonies. We will have games, snacks, and other activities at our home base to entertain everyone.
Food is available for purchase at the event from several Food Trucks. Students may bring their food from home. Allen will also have snacks available at our Home Base.
Consumption of all food and drinks will be limited to the cafeteria or outdoors.
In addition to the official competition events at the tournament, there are hands-on science activities that anyone (not just WESO participants) can participate in throughout the day. The Open Events area allows kids to drop in and participate in as many stations as their schedule allows.
Since there can be hours between the event and the award ceremony, you can leave with your child after their event and return in time for the Award Ceremony.
The Award Ceremonies will take place in the Pioneer High School Main Gym
Medals will be presented to 1st – 5th place finishers for each event in each grade, plus 3 honorable mentions.
There will be a lot of people at the event. Nearly every elementary school in Washtenaw County will be competing. It can get quite loud in the cafeteria and gym.
Please take a moment to sign up using the SignUp Genius form provided below. We appreciate your support in making this event a success for Allen Elementary. Thank you for your time and dedication.

Competition Volunteers
To meet WESO requirements, we need to provide a minimum of one volunteer for every three students participating (approximately 20 volunteers) Slots are available on Friday, May 9th, and Saturday, May 10, with volunteer slots lasting approximately three hours each. Without enough volunteers, we'll be forced to reduce our team size, potentially excluding events without parent volunteers. Your involvement is crucial to ensuring every student can participate fully.
Volunteer tasks typically involve crowd control, cleanup, and assisting with various events.
You won't be able to bring your child along while volunteering. (Those competing in Science Olympiad Events can stay without a parent at the Allen Home Page. We will have several parents there watching the kids. Coaches will make sure your kid gets to and from their event.)
Any adult (18 years and older) associated with our school is eligible to volunteer.
If you choose to sign up as an event volunteer, please ensure that you do not have a child competing in that particular event at any grade level, nor should you have coached the event this year.
Volunteers should check in at the Volunteer Check-in Table, located outside the cafeteria, 10 minutes before
their assigned time. You will be required to wear a special name tag if you are working at an academic event or in the academic wing. For safety reasons, only assigned volunteers are allowed in the academic event hallways.
