Description:
In this project we had to research an emerging technology, I chose self-driving/autonomic cars. We had to research why it's important, how it affects everyday life, the advantages and disadvantages, potential risks and their management, as well as the latest news. The reason I chose self-driving cars because it has always been a wonder to me how they can move by themselves and be so aware of their surroundings in order to not crash into the objects around them and know when to turn/stop.

Self-Driving Cars Interesting Fact
One interesting fact about self-driving/autonomic cars is that the first prototypes were actually developed in the 1920s with a few car manufacturers were inspired by science fiction. As well, the development of the modern-day self-driving vehicles was in the 1980's. This was a surprise for me because cars were still so new to the world in the 1920's, its crazy to think people were already thinking so far ahead. Also, in the 1980's computers were still being developed so to think that the technology for modern types of these vehicles was being developed at the same time is also crazy to me.

Lessons Learned:
Throughout this lesson I learned many things, from my own researching, other people's presentations, and having to put together my own PowerPoint. In PowerPoint I now understand how to use the Designer tool to help with the arrangement/design of my slides. Before, I would usually just follow the slide formats that slide gives you and just add a photo wherever I thought looked best. Next, I gained a lot of knowledge about self-driving cars, about their contributions to the environment, and to society. I learned how they allow for the disabled, elderly and those without the capability of getting a license to be able to transport themselves without having to rely on other humans. I learned how they decrease the fuel consumption and the amount of fossil fuels going into the air. Which, in the long run helping to decrease the effects of global warming and climate change. Though, I also learned the negative effects of them in how they can eventually take away jobs that involve driving. Lastly, through Alejandra's presentation I learned more about Virtual Reality and how it is helping to advance health care. I especially found it interesting how they are using VR in certain hospitals to help reduce a child's pain and anxiety.
