Unit 0: Orientation & Introduction to Information System
Going into this class I had no clue what I was getting into. Unit 0 however, showed me that thought I knew what some buttons do and use them on an almost daily basis, I never knew the exact name or purpose of them. This unit taught me the basis of the applications we use at CCBC that I've used many times in the past but never fully looked into or learned about.
What I Did :
What I learned:
Reviewed the different features provided by the LMS Brightspace
Registered and completed a SIMPath
Sent Professor Noone a professional email including information about me, and a signature file
Completed a discussion post in Reddit style, only making a new thread if my topic was not already spoken about. Including one thing I learned new about Microsoft Outlook emailing.
Set up my notebook and defined 9 terms that we had learned over Unit 0 with my own pre-definition and an actual definiton
That the interface is the features automatically provided to you by a LMS, like a bread crumb trail, the dots vs. check marks, the dot showing you have a notification
How to use SIMPath, how you take the pretest, get a score that can be your grade. OR if you get a few questions wrong you can take the lesson, then the posttest to try and re-do the questions you got wrong to increase your grade.
How to create my own signature file for Outlook, I had always seen them on CCBC employee's emails but never knew how to make my own.
The definitions for technological terms like LMS, Waffle, BCC, Information System, Hamburger, etc.
How to create a 'Rule' in my email and created my own that will now automatically take all of the Activity Summaries I receive from d2lsupport into my Activity Summary Folder. As seen in the screenshot below.

Reflection:
Throughout Unit 0 I learned the names and purposes of the basic components of the systems that I use everyday. This is all information I should have learned before I started to use these systems, but instead I had to learn by trial and error. Now, I know the different components of these systems, and will no longer just be able to describer them just by what they look like. I can't wait to learn more information like this!
