There are many elements involved in creating a learning experience and having checklists for tasks, such as this OER Checklist, ensures that there is consistency and accountability in the quality, relevance, and accuracy of the content presented in the resource is in line with the desired program results. Checklists also provide a support system to developers in making sure no key aspects are missed in properly evaluating a resource before putting it in production and can help save time and avoid conflicts such as licensing issues, culturally insensitive content, or false or misleading information.

Another important lesson learned in creating this checklist is the importance of having accessibility features and ADA compliance to meet the content that can be consumed by learners of all abilities and circumstances. Culture, inclusivity, and audience also stand out as key elements of the evaluation process and should be a focus of all educators and content developers to ensure learners of all backgrounds are provided an engaging and respectful learning experience.
