Creating this video for Module 3 of my minicourse provided valuable insights into the process of instructional design and multimedia content creation. The video addresses Course Learning Objective (CLO) 4 by helping students recognize red flags (warning signs) of predatory lending, an essential part of financial literacy. By focusing on specific signs such as guaranteed approval, hidden fees, and unclear terms, the video aligns with the module’s objectives and provides students with practical, applicable knowledge.
In terms of accessibility, I ensured the video included closed captioning and a transcript, with design elements that prioritize simple color contrasts and clear visuals. While these steps meet basic accessibility standards, I recognize that further improvements could - and probably should - be made. There are additional design features I could explore to improve accessibility and create an even more inclusive experience for all learners.
Using Canva to design slides, Vocaroo for audio recording, and YouTube for uploading and adding captions was a challenging yet intersting experience. As a novice in instructional design and digital media creation, I felt somewhat out of my depth, but the process was incredibly valuable for my growth. I’m proud of the outcome but recognize there is still much to learn. In the future, I’d like to experiment with other tools and resources to continue improving my skills and create even more polished and accessible content.
This assignment reinforced the importance of both accessibility and clear, engaging design in creating educational videos. I look forward to refining my approach and applying these lessons to future projects.
