Creating an animated introduction for my course, Financial Ninja: Slaying Predatory Lending Practices, was an exciting challenge that allowed me to think creatively while introducing the course’s content. The video serves as the opening piece, providing an engaging overview of the course, its relevance, and the modules students will explore. This dynamic approach helps set the tone for the course, drawing students in with its theme and structure, while also giving them a clear understanding of what to expect.
In terms of accessibility, I’ve made an effort to provide a transcript alongside the video. The animation includes text that simulates typewriting on the screen, which is designed to walk the audience through the course purpose, topic, and structure. While I used background action music to complement the visuals, I recognize that the video lacks closed captions, which could help enhance accessibility for all learners. I realize this is an area I can improve on moving forward and will strive to make my future videos more accessible.
The software I used, Powtoon, was relatively straightforward to work with, especially with the pre-built templates, but there was definitely a learning curve as I adapted the platform to fit my vision. As someone new to instructional design and media creation, I found this process challenging yet rewarding. I look forward to experimenting with different tools and platforms in the future to develop my skills and improve the quality of my content. With more practice, I hope to create even more polished and accessible media for my audience.
