Abby Persoon - Class of 2018

Project: Museum Collections and Management

About: Abby is a Zoology major who started at NMU in 2014. She is interested in animal behavior, education, and interpretation of animals. Originally from Mahtomedi, Minnesota, Abby hopes to become an educational interpreter after she graduates, as well as continue to work with birds in a research setting.

Cody Selewski – Class of 2018

Project: Behavioral ecology of Black-Capped Chickadees.

About: Cody is a biology student with an emphasis in ecology, and started at NMU in 2016. He is interested in conservation management, stewardship, ecosystem dynamics, and population and community ecology with a focus in avian habitat conservation. Originally from Harbor Springs, Michigan, Cody plans on obtaining a masters degree following his graduation from NMU to pursue a career in conservation ecology.

Danielle Dershem - Class of 2018

Project: Zoology museum and database management

About: Dani is originally from Zeeland, Michigan and started at NMU in the fall of 2014.  She is majoring in biology and her interests include evolution, animal behavior, and conservation.

Nathan Martineau - Class of 2019

Project: Flock Behavior of Black-Capped Chickadees

About: Nate is majoring in Biology with an Ecology emphasis, and has been part of the lab group since 2015. His interests are focused on a range of topics relating to bird behavior and conservation, especially from a broader ecological perspective. He is from Lansing, Michigan, and plans to get a PhD after graduating from NMU and continue into a career involving ecological field research with a focus on birds.

Jason Verbal - Class of 2019

About: Jason is a Biology major with a Zoology concentration and he started school at NMU in 2015. He is from Whitmore Lake, Michigan. His interest lies in photography, behavior, and interactions with the ecosystem.

Joseph Kurtz - Class of 2020

About: Joseph is a biology major with an ecology concentration. He started at NMU in Fall 2016. His primary interests are avian ecology and biodiversity. He plans to go to graduate school a few years after completing his undergrad.
