Day 1: Demonstration of Hot Air Oven
A hot air oven is a piece of equipment used in laboratories, research facilities, and industries for various thermal processing applications. The structure and function of hot air oven was demonstrated to the students along with hands on practice. Now a days this instrument bears immense importance in academia and industry for drying of environmental samples and sterilisation.
Day 2: Demonstration of Analytical Balance
An analytical balance is a sensitive laboratory instrument used to measure mass with a high degree of accuracy and precision. The demonstration of this precision instrument was done to the students and they had been taught to use such precision instrument by hand.
Day 3: Demonstration of Rotary Shaker
A rotary shaker is a laboratory instrument used to agitate or mix substances within containers, typically in round-bottomed flasks or tubes. The students were demonstrated the structure and operation of the rotary shaker, followed by practical exercises. This instrument is immensely used in biological and environmental purposes.
Day 4: Demonstration of Vane Anemometer
A vane anemometer is a device used to measure the speed and direction of airflow. The structure and function of vane anemometer were demonstrated to the students. The students measured the speed of airflow by their hand in field.
Day 5 and 6: Analysis of dataset
Environmental data analysis and decision making process was discussed using the statistical tools such as CRAN R. The hands on approach was taken to get the students familiarise with quantitative data analysis and machine learning processes that are increasingly becoming relevant for assessment of environment.
Day 7: Demonstration of Noise Meter
A noise meter is an instrument used to measure the intensity or level of sound in decibels (dB). The structure and function of noise meter was demonstrated to the students along with hands on practice.
Day 8: GIS analysis
ArcGIS (Arc Geographic Information System) is a powerful software suite developed by ESRI (Environmental Systems Research Institute) for working with geographic information and creating maps, analysing spatial data, conducting spatial analysis, and managing geographic information in a variety of applications. The hands on approach was adopted to make the students familiarise with the geographical positioning.
Day 9: Light and soil analysis
Analysis of light intensity and quantification of pH, temperature of soil were carried out by the resource person and thereafter by the students in field.
Day 10: Water quality analysis
Analysis of water pH, temperature and salinity were demonstrated to the students and hands on practice of the methods were carried out by the students.
Day 11: Image analysis by compound microscope
The structure and function of the compound microscope was taught by the resource person. The practical image analysis was done by the students,
Day 12: Demonstration of centrifuge machine
A centrifuge is a laboratory instrument that uses centrifugal force to separate components of a mixture based on their density, size, and shape. The principle of the centrifuge machine was described and the function was demonstrated.
Day 13: Demonstration of GPS system
GPS is a satellite-based navigation system that provides location and time information anywhere on or near the Earth's surface. The demonstration of GPS was done and hands on training has been provided to the students.
Day 14: Demonstration of Nephelometer
A nephelometer is a scientific instrument used to measure the turbidity of a liquid sample by quantifying the amount of scattered light. The turbidity of environmental samples were measured by students using the instrument.
Day 15: Demonstration of Magnetic Stirrer
Magnetic stirrer hot plate, combines heating capabilities with stirring functionality, making it a versatile tool in laboratories for mixing and heating liquid substances simultaneously. The demonstration and practical training of this instrument were provided to the students.
